Description:
The Pio Monte della Misericordia is a historic philanthropic and religious institution that preserves an extraordinary artistic heritage. It houses Caravaggio's famous canvas, The Seven Works of Mercy, one of the absolute masterpieces of the Italian Baroque, still in its original location.

History:
Founded in 1602 by a group of young Neapolitan nobles eager to practice charitable works, the Pio Monte soon became a hub for assistance to the poor and sick. During his stay in Naples in 1606-1607, Caravaggio was commissioned to paint a large canvas for the institution's chapel, creating a revolutionary work in terms of composition, light, and expressive power.
