Itinerary
Walk through millennia of history among the ruins of the Empire, the majesty of the Vatican, and the dolce vita of baroque squares, savoring carbonara in the heart of the Eternal City.
Giorno 1: L'Antica Roma e i Fori Imperiali
Morning: Start with the city's undisputed symbol: the Colosseum. Explore the world's most famous amphitheater, then continue to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, where you'll walk on the same stones once trod by emperors and senators millennia ago.
Lunch: Head to the Monti district, a bohemian neighborhood just steps from the Forum, to enjoy a plate of Spaghetti alla Carbonara or Carciofo alla Giudia (Jewish-style artichokes) in a traditional trattoria.
Afternoon: Head to the Pantheon, the world's best-preserved Roman temple with its open dome. Continue to Piazza Navona to admire Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers and enjoy the lively atmosphere of street performers.
Day 2: The Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo
Morning: Cross the Tiber to enter the Vatican. Visit St. Peter's Basilica (the largest church in Christendom) and spend time at the Vatican Museums, culminating in the extraordinary Sistine Chapel frescoed by Michelangelo.
Lunch: Stop in the Borgo Pio or Prati neighborhoods for a Roman "pizza al taglio" (crispy and thin) or a porchetta sandwich.
Afternoon: Stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo, Hadrian's ancient mausoleum transformed into a papal fortress. Climb to the terrace for a spectacular view of St. Peter's. End the day by crossing the evocative Ponte Sant'Angelo at sunset.
Day 3: Baroque, Shopping, and Trastevere
Morning: Wake up early to see the Trevi Fountain without the crowds and toss your coin. Continue to the Spanish Steps and its monumental staircase, then lose yourself among the shop windows of Via del Corso and Via Condotti.
Lunch: Cross Ponte Sisto and have lunch in Trastevere, Rome's most authentic neighborhood. Order a Cacio e Pepe or Amatriciana at an osteria with outdoor seating.
Afternoon: Explore the colorful alleys of Trastevere, visit the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, and then walk up the Janiculum Hill: from here, you'll enjoy the most romantic and complete view of all of Rome as the sun sets.
