Experience the magic of a double city by taking the funicular up to the fortified medieval village of Città Alta to walk along the Venetian walls, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 1: The Upper Town and History

Morning: Take the historic funicular from the lower town to the heart of the upper town. You'll arrive in Piazza delle Scarpe. From here, reach Piazza Vecchia, described by Le Corbusier as "the most beautiful square in Europe." Climb the Campanone (Civic Tower) to hear the bells ringing and enjoy the view of the Alps.
Lunch: Enjoy Casoncelli alla bergamasca (pasta filled with meat, amaretti biscuits, and raisins, topped with butter, sage, and pancetta) at a local trattoria.
Afternoon: Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (the Baroque interior is rich in tapestries and stucco) and the Colleoni Chapel, a masterpiece of the Lombard Renaissance. Stroll along Corsarola, the main street lined with small shops and pastry shops.
