Arena
Rome
Arena Features:
The Colosseum's arena, where the gladiatorial contests unfolded, was a wooden floor covered with sand known as the "harena" (Latin for sand). Beneath this surface lay a network of tunnels and rooms forming the hypogeum, a subterranean structure that housed gladiators, animals, and props. Trapdoors and elevators facilitated dramatic entrances and exits for participants and wild beasts.
