Torre del Cerrano
(TE) - Pineto

The Cerrano tower, immersed in the greenery of the pine forest, looks directly out to sea. It owes its name to the torrent of the same name, which flows down from the hills of Atri. Its function was evidently that of coastal lookout, in a period in which the sea represented a serious threat of invasion for the neighboring populations. The original nucleus of the complex is still easily recognizable, consisting of a truncated pyramid tower, with a square plan ending with a crenellated crown; the upper square turret, also crowned with crenellations, was built later (early 20th century).
